Colossians 2:16-23

Paul was warning the Colossians for holding onto worldly things other than Christ. The Colossians church was prevalent with heretic practices at the time, and the members of the church were not free from secular worldview. Their lives were in many aspects contaminated by impurities. 

But the Scripture says that when we die on the cross with Christ, we then no longer live to the world. All our sinful desires and values are nailed on the cross along with Christ, and death is sentenced to them. We should continuously seek for God's grace to get rid of the things of the earth that are binding us to sin. 

I cannot do this by my strength and will. I see from my heart many sinful desires still trying to win against the image of God which has been restored in me through God's work of salvation; yet by faith can I be free from those evil desires and firmly stand on this hope of eternal life. I pray for God's strength and wisdom as I follow Him on this journey of faith.
