Colossians 1:9-20

God doesn't exist for our own happiness and comforts, but it is I who exist for Him and His glory. We live in a world where an individual's rights to be happy and to be satisfied are prior to any other values. The world keeps telling us that we are the most important beings, and we are very special. What I must not forget in this world is the supremacy and the preeminence of God. After all, I am nothing if I cut myself off from the Christ. I am nothing but a result of total depravity, full of crippling sins under my decaying body.

God is first, and I am the second, or maybe less. The Scripture says that all things were created from Him, by Him, and for Him. Christ was before all things, and we can only stand when He is in us. He is the very supremacy, and only through Him we maybe reconciled with God.

Paul was warning the Colossians church which was fascinated by things, rituals, ideas, values other than Christ, and reminding them again of preeminence and sufficiency of God. Just like the Colossians church, I do sometimes regard things other than Christ, mostly myself, more important than Christ. I pray that God would give me grace that I may surrender my everything before Him, and He would reign over me with his supremacy. Remember "Not I, but Christ."
