Colossians 4:1-9

Paul teaches to the Colossians church on their attitude towards outsiders. His teaching is not a grand mastery of doctrines, but a quite simple yet profound one. He told them that they should walk in widsom towards outsiders in order to make the best use of time, because the time is near.

Before giving this instruction, Paul first asked the Colossians church for prayers that God would open up the ways to spread the gospel to others. Paul was more than committed for this cause, and it seems like he was sensing the urgency of time. He was also hoping that the Colossians church be integrated to this cause with the same heart.

What Paul needed and asked the Colossians church to have was wisdom. What does is mean that we walk in wisdom towards outsiders? After all, what is wisdom?

The Bible talks about wisdom in many of its texts. Although it talks about wisdom many times, it is very hard to define what it is. My poor attempt leads me to define wisdom as this: knowing the beginning and the end. It is knowing that God the creator and God the concluder, who will come to bring the final judgment.

If this is wisdom? How can we walk in it as we face those who are unbelievers? I don't really know the answer to this, so I can only ask for God's guidance to the path. Does it mean that we should tell them about this widsom? Or does it mean that we should show them that we are living the life of wisdom? It probably is both. We should remain in this wisdom as we talk and behave.

Lord, so I rely on you to teach me this wisdom. Let my life be integrated to the wisdom that you give.
